Philodendron, climbing plant

The vines are a large and diverse genus of vines, which includes more than 500 species. The way the species grow is everything from the forest floor upwards, on tree trunks or from the crown towards the ground. It is typical for vines that the leaves are small and heart-shaped when they are young, but when they grow up they grow large, showy leaves. Various variegated color defects can be found from white, to yellow and even red.

Popular traditional Philodendron species are Philodendron scandens (heart vine) and Philodendron erubescens (purple vine), of which the Imperial Green variety has been a classic. Both are known for their dark green leaves, thanks to which the species do well in dim interiors. Larger-leaved and variegated species require more light, however, avoiding direct sunlight.

Since there are many different plants in the genus of climbing vines, the care instructions may differ between representatives of the Philodendron genus. All thrive in indirect light and like to dry out a little between waterings, but how much can vary. It is always advisable to compare different care instructions with each other with a new plant.
