The genus monstera contains some of the plant worlds biggest superstars. From the iconic Monstera deliciosa with its fenestrated leaves to the coveted Monstera oblique that has taught many plant enthusiast of the infuriating practice of falsely naming plants in order to boost sales. The fenestrated leaves of the Monsteras allow them to expend less energy while increasing sunlight exposure. The fenestration can be any combination of holes or slitted leaves. Providing more light and misting may help if your trying to encourage the plant to grow more mature leaves.

Monsteras climb with their air roots that act like hooks over tree branches and will burrow down into any suitable growing medium or water it might encounter. When growing a monstera indoors try to direct aerial roots into the pot to boost the plants metabolism. Some species of Monstera may start growing only a stem with no leaves, this is often in response to lack of moisture in the air.
